1. Non-Conformity is Essential

Behind those black pouty eyes is a mind of a non-conformist to the core. He doesn’t allow the pressures of Squidword, his pet snail Gary, or the evil Plankton to change him. He will always be the same friendly guy who believes the world is made of flowers, fluffy bunnies and rainbows.

He is who he is.

“I’m ugly and I’m proud! I’m ugly and I’m proud!! I’m ugly and I’m proud!”

2. Self-Acceptance is Key

The big yellow talking sponge completely accepts who he is amidst all of his quirks. Sure, there are times when he implants balloons in his arms to mimic muscles in order to impress the beaver of his dreams. We all have fallen prey to the same desire, but SpongeBob remembered that he captured the heart of the precious beaver by his compassionate heart and heart-warming laugh.

SpongeBob doesn’t need the re-assurance of the sculpted lobster to know that he is special.

“I’ll have you know I stubbed my toe last week when watering my spice garden, and I only cried for 20 minutes.”

3. Live Honestly and authentic

You can call him a crybaby, but SpongeBob did not become the cultural phenomenon who will have his name ingrained next to Bugs Bunny, Homer Simpson , and Charlie Sheen on the cartoon characters hall of fame because of his relaxed demeanor. SpongeBob wears his heart on his sleeve and isn’t afraid to admit that pain sheds tears from his eyes. His millions of adoring fans open up their hearts to this creature because they can connect with him in a real way. Children all around the world sense his complete innocence and carefree spirit.

Don’t we all wish we lived in a world where we could freely share our feelings?

“As long as these pants are square and this sponge is bob, I will not let you down!”

4. Sacrificial Commitment

You can push him down. You can use his body as a trampoline. You can even use him to clean off your greasy and dirty kitchen countertops, but do not try to steal the krabby patty formula. SpongeBob’s purpose in life is to protect the precious formula from all evil individuals whether it is the diabolical Plankton or Krusty Krab himself. SpongeBob faces certain dangers and death in order to keep the balance of greasy burgers in its proper location.

You can trust in SpongeBob.

“F is for friends who do stuff together! U is for you and me! N is for anywhere at anytime at all down here in the deep blue sea!”

5. Enjoy Every Moment of Life with Friends

What would you be doing right now if the only responsibility you had was to feed your pet snail? This is the life of SpongeBob Squarepants and he has turned it into a circus. Everyday becomes an adventure that brings giggles to himself and his simple-minded best friend, Patrick the starfish. This tag-team duo create excitement and joy in every moment of life whether it is a beautiful day at the beach or playing hide and seek in the neighbor’s house.

The only thing required is friendship.

” I’m a goofy goober yeah! Your a goofy goober yeah! We’re all goofy goobers yeah!”

6. Fulfill Your Life When You Include Everyone

Many people today talk about the power of having exclusive clubs. They build these huge monstrosities of houses in trees and say that there are no girls allowed. I never enjoyed these types of organizations as I have always been on the outside looking in. Call it a lack of a complete brain, but SpongeBob includes everyone into his adventures. The color of your skin, the amount of appendages you have, or your animal species does not matter.

The only true thing that does matter is your heart, and even that can be overlooked.

“Squidward, you look like a steamed vegetable, only smarter.”

7. Compliments Will Get You Everywhere

Last week, I told a random woman in the grocery store that she was a beautiful pregnant lady. She replied that she wasn’t pregnant, and I knew that compliment would leave a lasting impression on her. I didn’t even need a thank you when I was able to see how red her face became.

One of the most powerful weapons in our arsenal is the compliment. Our lives jump frantically from one responsibility to another in a horrible game of Frogger. We forget to really show our spouses, our children, and our friends how special they are. All it takes is a simple compliment.

You are my world and I love you.

After I finished reporting on the inner-workings of the subversive sponge’s mind, I studied and mulled over the results for 5 whole minutes. These were some of the longest minutes of my life as I relived the horrifying stories I experienced in my research. Stories that I will not rehash here, but I did make a conclusion regarding the influence of this yellow sponge.

My wildest fears came true.

SpongeBob is teaching our children to enjoy life and treasure our friendships as if they are a precious krabby patty.
